It would be hard not to notice the current state of lawlessness in our country.  The nightly news convinces us that we have become more violent, more angry, more intolerant and more unhinged. And our Congress has become equally strident.  Our elected representatives should model statesmanship and a prudent temperament. We should expect stable, thoughtful, and civil adults to do the business of our country. What we have, though, is a political landscape littered with equal parts hate and madness.  Our nation is being driven by emotion. Not the best way to govern. When the country sees our political leadership exhibit spiteful and vicious animosity to one another, is it no wonder that many of our citizenry take this behavior as license to do likewise?

The signs of our republic’s moral and civil disintegration are on display daily. Violence has become normative. Our drift toward chaos has been triggered by slow but pivotal cultural shifts in attitudes and beliefs. The very scenario we are experiencing may become a mirror  of the 1938 Kristellnacht in Germany.  “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it (Winston Churchill). It would do us well to review those seminal events that have brought us to this point. That will be in another post.
